Lawns
All gardens operate on a combination of open and filled spaces. A lawn provides a balance of softness and durability and can be made to any shape and contour, and the species of grass tailored to its use. For instance, an ornamental lawn with little use would be planted with a finer leaved grass, whilst a lawn with heavy foot traffic will need a hardier, broadleaf species.
Lawns can be sown from seed or laid as an instant carpet of ready-lawn. Although laying a lawn as a floor surface is cheap in comparison initially to hard surfaces, it has ongoing maintenance costs.
